Civil Art empowers the Asian Pacific Islander (API) community by creating written records of the contributions of API creatives (visual and performance art, design, culinary art, literature, and curatorial scholarship) and organizing venues for artistic exploration and engagement. Civil Art emphasizes accessibility and education in art, providing digestible and informative writings on public platforms and creating free educational materials for youth groups, the API community, and supporters.

Civil Art is a fiscally sponsored (Players Philanthropy Fund) 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All contributions to Civil Art are tax-deductible to the fullest extent under law.

About Civil Art Publishing

Storytelling is at the heart of Civil Art’s mission.

A well-told story can breathe life into images and artworks and unfold the complexities of individual lives.

Founded in 2024, Civil Art Publishing is a platform championing untold stories, documenting the extensive achievements, ideas, and critical thoughts of the API creative community through print and online publication.

  • Online Publications

Our online publications serve as a dynamic platform for sharing critical thought, artistic practice, and cultural dialogue. They offer flexible, accessible formats that allow us to engage a broad audience and respond quickly to current conversations in art and society.

The Artist Index provides a platform for artists to share their artistic insights and cultural heritage and offers opportunities to emerging art writers to interview and publish articles on Civil Art Publishing's online platform. At Civil Art, we strive to create egalitarian platforms that highlight a diverse range of emerging to established creative voices. Our unique interview format is a testament to that goal and a reflection of our belief in the transformative potential of collective storytelling.

Print Publications

Our print publications are thoughtfully crafted objects that act as lasting records of the ideas and voices that shape our community. Each print project is an opportunity to deepen our dialogue and highlight important API contributions in the arts and various creative fields.

Civil Art Publishing’s print publications preserve the unique narratives of the API community with beautiful illustrations, photographs, and curated writings. Our printed publications unite trailblazing individuals across the arts, design, culinary arts, and scholarship, capturing the inspiring stories and ideas that shape API culture.

Community Events

Community events are a way to activate Civil Art Publishing’s work and make our values—such as access, collaboration, and experiential learning—felt in real time. These events create space for connection, experimentation, and shared experience, making art more approachable and community-oriented.

Civil Art Publishing engages its audience and supporters through in-person programs, including museum walkthroughs, archival visits, cafe gatherings, and panel discussions.

    Video Archive

Archiving ensures that the work produced through Civil Art Publishing, whether educational, creative, or critical, remains accessible over time. By preserving these materials, we expand the reach and longevity of our programs, making them available to future audiences and honoring the time and thought invested by our community.

In an effort to improve the longevity and accessibility of ephemeral educational programs, Civil Art Publishing partners with local galleries, museums, and nonprofits to archive educational events by providing video and audio recording support. These videos are made available on the Civil Art Publishing website and Youtube channel for free public access.
